Imarika is a Swahili word meaning “to be strengthened.” The project supports rural communities in Iringa to improve livelihoods, protect the environment, and build resilience.
Many families depend on small-scale farming but face declining soil fertility, erosion, deforestation, climate change, and limited income opportunities. Imarika helps communities respond through practical, locally led solutions.
Key activities include:
- Conservation agriculture to improve soil health and crop yields.
- Tree nurseries and afforestation to restore land and create income.
- Poultry farming to diversify household income and improve nutrition.
- Beekeeping to generate income while supporting pollination and biodiversity.
- Fuel-efficient stoves to create income, reduce firewood use, and improve household health.
- Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs/VICOBAs) to encourage saving, provide access to small loans, and support entrepreneurship.
Through training, community groups, and partnerships with local organizations, Imarika equips communities with the skills and resources to strengthen their livelihoods and manage their natural resources sustainably.
Our goal is simple: stronger livelihoods, healthier environments, and more resilient comm
